If we knew what sort of genre the Hip Hop movie would morph it self into then maybe 25 years ago Charlie Ahearn wouldn't have embarked on making what was the first (and still the best) Hip Hop movie ever made.
Now I dont want to waste column inches reflecting on the schlock that fills video shop shelves and bargain bins across the nation and certainly dont want to give a shine to the likes of "Bar-B-Que", "I got the Hook up", "Woo", "Strictly Business" etc etc.......... I want to take time to reflect on a seminal classic that this year celebrates its 25th year.
If you haven't seen it. See it. Simple. A complete classic that encapsulates the spirit and passion of a burgeoning movement like nothing before it and since. It's a simple tale of Graff artist Lee, spliced with Love, music, entertainment and cameo appearances from the likes of Grand Master Flash, Fab Five Freddy, the Cold Crush Brothers amongst others.
The folks at Mr Bongo have done the right thing and to celebrate its 25th year have reissued the CD, DVD, a 12" and Book - all repackaged with bonus bits - and trust me you need them all!!
Just focussing on just the CD (but it's all that has arrived at Seatwave towers so far!)....this is nicely repackaged at a deluxe double cd set.
All the original hits are there from the likes of Busy Bee, Grand Master Caz, Fab Five Freddy and Double trouble but this time around there is some nice bonus bits thrown in.. A mix from superstar DJ in the making Phat Kev is thrown in which is nice as well as all the instrumentals and most interestingly a DJ tool kit with all the samples and dialogue for all u wannabe Djs at home to construct your own Wild Style Block Party....nice!
A classic. A classic. A classic. Buy the CD, watch the DVD, read the book. Make it yours!
