So another August bank holiday means one thing, another trip to the biggest street party in the UK - the legendary Notting Hill Carnival!
So this event is like Marmite (or vegemite) you either like it or you dont and some people i speak to really dont want to go down there...
I understand this - the key to every great carnival is having a strategy and sticking to it - head into the packed quagmire of people and you have nothing but a stress ful day on your hands.
So our usual plan is to hit Norman Jays Good Time and then go to the Co-op sound system - no Co-op this year so this year meant Norman all the way.......
Now those of you that have experienced a Good Times day know its a mixed bag - some killer tunes mixed with some really awful cheesy house - u have to take the rough with the smooth...
So we got there early and got a good spot on the back wall by the flats and stayed there for all the day - and I must admit probably best carnival ever!!!
The music was cheesy at times but the atmosphere was amazing - it built during the day to a crescendo with the whole of the culdesac absolutely packed and rocking!!
We had a beer seller at our feet, I found a convenient spot for a loo break, great foot was close - it was perfect....
Big tunes of note from the day that really got us going (that i can remember off the top of me head - there were loads):
Raving Im Raving - Shut up and dance
Original Nutter - Shy Fx ft Uk Apache
Cha Cha Cha - MC Lyte (which was like tumble weed on the dancefloor but i loved it!)
Sound of the Police - Krs One
Runaway - Nuyorican soul
Optimistic - Sounds of Blackness
Hey Ya - Outkast
Never too Much - Luther Vandross
Days like this - Shaun Escoffrey
Much to much much to young - The Specials
If you really love me - Stevie Wonder
Love is the message - MFSB...
Wish had gone back on Monday - next year its all about the double header!!!
