Now those of you that have read my reviews before have seen that theres no rating system as such (makes u read it!)... if i was to introduce one for this particular gig then i think my rating would be above any pre-appoved scheme of rating how good a Hip Hop show this was....
So lets go back a bit.... I heard KRS was coming over to the UK and was instantly gripped with the fever to get tickets...... but nightmare!! I was already going to the KPM show...so i was going to miss out this time round, he then announced a secret Plan B show which I was out London for... i thought I was never going to see this man.......but THEN he announced another London show at the Jazz Cafe - I grabbed tickets - thanked the godz an unprecedented third london show was coming........what a result!
I rounded up a few pals and headed down the cafe. I didnt really know what to expect as this was the third London show in a matter of a few weeks so didnt know what the response would be.... as we came round the corner from a pre-gig pint on park row I was greated with the biggest ever queue i had seen outside the Jazz Cafe - it was huge - people with tickets, without tickets, people begging for tickets (no one selling tickets outside though...) ...
We queued for ten mins or so and then got in and then headed for a vantage point up on the balcony.... within half an hour the Jazz Cafe was more packed than i had ever seen it - there really wasnt a spare millimetre of space in the place.. the atmoshere electric and hundreds of heads awating the great man....
After Pogo warmed the crowd up he came rushing down on stage and I have never seen a reaction like it.... the crowd went mental and so did he......
He cleared the stage completely - had no hypeman, no "sentance finisher" - just him + Dj Pogo - all he needed... He launched into "MC's act like they dont know" and the crowd reaction literally blew the roof of the building... ALL hands were waving up and down, all bodies moving - how a Hip Hop show should be (but rarely is these days...)... this was followed by "South Bronx" and then hit after hit after hit after hit....
from the top of my head we were blessed with:
MC's Act like they dont know
South Bronx
Still Number 1
My Philosophy
Classic
Step into a World
A friend
Outta Here
You must Learn
Poetry
Super Hoe
The Bridge is over
Self Destruction
Sound of Da Police
hit after hit after hit....
we stayed at our spot on the balcony which was odd but the atmosphere was such that it didnt matter - you were still right in midst (just without the flying beer - alright maybe there was a bit of that anyway...)
It was a show i didnt want to end but when it did it was possibly the perfect ending..... earlier that week it was announced that KRS' son has committed suicide due to depression back in the states - everyone understandably expected him to cancel the show and he addressed this at the end...
He tributed the show to the recently departed Randy but then took time to tell all the crowd how they were his family too and how doing this show was a tribute to one of his family with his family.... a truely moving moment which was followed by him entering the crowd and giving people what they wanted - autographs, shoutouts, kisses and a general scrum followed and everyone just wanted to touch the man......
the best ever Hip Hop show at the Jazz Cafe - without a doubt.. and definately in my top five concerts.... what a night...... Hip Hop was alive and well that night...

Wow... an amaing review. I'm not massively into Hip Hop but that makes me wish I was.
Massive amounts of respect to hom for rising above grief and rallying masses for support. Nice vids too.
