KPM AllStars @ Meltdown Festival Royal Festival Hall June 2007

KPM_Allstars_Band.JPG

I had seen the KPM Allstars just a manner of months ago and as soon as I saw they were part of the meltdown festival I know i had to check them again...

At the Jazz Cafe a few months ago me + Hudson had missed the first half of the show so were chuffed to bits when their next gig came along so soon (the one before that had been 5 years b4!)...

Being part of the Meltdown was great for the the allstars - they had a proper stage and national acclaim and press, they even made it onto the front of the guardian guide the day before!!

Jarvis alas couldnt make the gig - he was next door singing Disney songs with Shane McGowan so the compere duties were down to Jonny Trunk of dirty fan mail fame.... he was ok and the right man for the job but personally dont think he was needed...

Eight of us went along (props to Steve the Sleeve, Dave H, Paddy, Gonners, Witch, Rod and Cee) and grabbed our seats 5 rows from the front.....

The best thing about seeing KPM is the SOUND and at the festival Hall it was perfect! - The nine piece horn section sounded alive, the drums crisp and the keys did the rest.....

The show had a similar format to the Jazz Cafe... its quite stop start with all the composers coming out and introducing their bits..... and the whole thing held together by the undisputed godz - Hawkshaw and mansfield...

The banter is priceless but the music is PHAT!

All the hits got played - Grange Hill, Countdown, The Champ, Grandstand, Superstars, Horse of the Year show, Sportsnight, The Champ, Funky Fanfare and many more - Madeline Bell Stepped up and blasted out "Everlasting love" which was loved by all - great backing singing support too from Karime Kendra and Kirsty Hawkshaw...

A lot of the original musicians are still there and they al get their props which is great to see - a lot of them have been there since day one.....

Everyone is the band seems to be loving it so much which gives the whole event a feel good and totally unmissable vibe... Its an experience like no other you'll see and one everyone should check in the next few years (come one this lot arent gonna go on for ever!)...
