Celebrity Boxing

Friday 8th June, 2007

On Friday, the Seatwave clan donned their glad rags and trotted down to Old Billingsgate Market for a knockout evening of dinner, dancing and celebrity boxing. Literally.

UK took on New Zealand and the brave (or should we say, 'mad') celebrity contestants included Olympic Gold Medallist - James Cracknell, Ex-England rugby player - Chris Sheasby, former England batsman- Adam Hollioake and former All Blacks rugby star - Frank Bunce. Boxing legend Sir Henry Cooper kept the rabble in order as a special guest judge. So, who packed the best punch? Here's what some of the staff members thought...

Taylor

"Very pleased with the whole affair. Quite a spectacle, felt rather special traipsing in dressed to the nines with co-workers all one sheet to the wind due to a small stopoff at a pub before arriving. There were some athletic looking folks who I assumed were famous, and the Sparks ladies present in force doing their thing. Inside the venue it was quite impressive. Hard to imagine that at one point it was a scene from Perfume...

BobandWeave3.jpgFree drinks were plentiful and readily available, the table was nice and close to the ring, and the settings were very stylish. Great lighting and music completed the ambience. Eventually we were all seated to what was a reasonably good meal replete with red, white, still, sparkling, and whole wheat. An impressive range of options for donating to the cause was neatly stacked at each seat, from fight cards to labeled smart-card bidding machines. My 50 quid, fortunately for Sparks, was quickly outbid for an SLH weekend, must have gone for about 2k.

The fights were a blast, from the kids, to the kicking women, to the headsnapping DOWN HE GOES final match (and props to the ring-card girls). And sure, why not have *one* more glass of wine, we’re all friends here… until it was simply time to go. Happy to say I missed the follow-on of the evening and getting buried in (what sounded like) were NOT shot-glasses."
