Mark Ronson - Play that Phunky Music... London Boy
I was at the Mark Ronson concert last night... (thank goodness for Seatwave!) - love the dudes music so I had to check the show. I t was more & less than what was expected.
Great vibe, perfect small(ish) venue and cool crowd... it was like a straight up - after the studio jam session gig... it was also more like Mark invited friends on the stage who rocked the crowd than 'well known' musicians - which made it all the better.
Although no free bar (grrrrrrrrrrrrr...) we (hit the show with a good friend JC & I don't mean that religiously!) at the back of the crowd - three Corona later we pushed out way to the front & for the last half of the sets... it was great.
I wish I could remember who was all on stage - by names... it was also not a 'coversfest' or a 'Best of Mark Ronson' night, rather new music interplated with some old classics - the guest artists held their own as well.
Mark started off on the guitar, which was really cool & it was easy to see why all the UK artists leave for American shores. It's like he lives & breaths NYC (I used to live there) - in that his styles / artists and even the music he played was not exclusive. It simply rocked... a few songs I didn't even know but had my hands in the air (this is very rare indeed!)
Anywayz the less than expected part is my greedy desire for an open bar & some more of the usual classics... but it was a mini-showcase and he kicked ass.
The only ill I wish on him is to lose his passport as we need more shows (& shows like last night) on these shores!
Rock On Mark Ron.
