It should have been the perfect night. It was Rods birthday so it was all set up. I bought him and I tickets as a present. Left work on time and headed to the lane.
I booked tickets a few days before and for the first time asked to pick them up from the ticket office, a word of warning - this takes ages! If you plan to pick up your tickets then leave plenty of time because a twenty minute queue awaits you!
So we got in with a few minutes to spare and sat in the Lower East stand. I havent sat there before and was attracted to grab some seats there due to the reasonable (if you can call any tickets at White Hart lane reasonable) price of £39. I had paid £61 for the last round and sat behind a post so it seemed to make sense...
So we started the match with great optimism, we had been speaking about booking hotel rooms in Glasgow for the final before hand and I was confident we would do the biz. Five minutes in we were 2 goals down and the tie was over. Gutted.
We cant defend from set pieces and this cost us again. Ex Spur Freddie Kanoute had his one good game in fifteen which he was allways going to do again us and scored a great goal.
We came back to 2-2 and had chances but we didnt deserve to go through and were out played.
We also paid relative) peanuts and got to sit with Monkeys. We were surrounded by some real scum who persisted on shouting out "hurt him" and "break his legs" - these weren't kids - grown men who should know better..... so avoid the lower east stand if you dont want to mix with scum like this..
Another eventful night at the lane finished with the wrong result and Spurs' European tour over for another year.
