A free night at Plastic People to kick off the Bank Holiday weekend - it's a good look!! Soho record shack If Music celebrated its 4 years of trading by hiring out London's Baddest club and letting patrons in for free. If music's own Jean Claude Thompson was the host for the night, keeping it lively on the mic and introducing a DJ Line up that for a free night was about as good as it could get!
We got to the venue about 11 ish (after watching a Spurs game and having one of our parties bag nicked) and it was nice and bubbling. A nice crowd was attracted by the no work the next day and good vibes. No cloak room was a pain, Cazza had to dance carrying a HUGE bag, but despite that we hit the dancefloor and stayed there!
Cadet records was the theme for the night was an emphasis on Chess and Cadet's main hit maker Charles Stepney, producer of Rotary Connection, Terry Callier, Minnie Ripperton, The Dells and Earth Wind and Fire so good music was guaranteed throughout.
Patrick Forge was playing when we entered and he got the vibe going nicely - John Klemmer's "Blowin Gold" was a highlight. It was all set up for "The Bastard son of Charles Stepney" as he was introduced by Jean Claude - the main man himself - Marc Mac. Without question one of London's number one Djs this night was made for him. Due to his 4 Hero homages and Chess remix compilations this night was made for him and he didnt dissapoint. Playing a flawless set of classic Rotary Connection mixed up with his own remixes and re-rubs - this was one of the DJ sets of the year so far for me. On point!
We left soon after Mac packed up, due to general lethargy and the shown being stolen. Top night - and check out some Charles Stepney if you haven't already!!
