The biggest match of the year for the Irish is the St Patricks Day Match. This one fell the day after Paddy's Day itself but you wouldn't know it from the thousands of fans enjoying the craic in the carpark long before the game!
Despite the wind and threat of snow a recore crowd for the Guinness Premiership (over 22,000) turned up to watch a bruising encounter between the Exiles and Wasps. Sporting a three quarter line than contained no less than 5 full England Internationals and driven on by the old warrior Laurence Dallaglio Wasps were the pre-match favourites.
However apart from a five minute spell in the first half, London Irish dominated and would have been further ahead at half time if they had kicked their penalties. In the end the match was settled by the boot of Ricky Flutey who leaves Irish at the end of the season to go to....Wasps of course, what serendipity. Anyway a gratifying 16-13 win keeping alive a slim chance of the play-offs...come on you Irish!! Oh and much Guinness was sunk, a brilliant afternoon for the family.
