So tonight saw the launch of the new Breakin Bread Comp - "BeatBreakinfunkandhiphop" and the Jazz cafe was the spot.
Now Sunday gigs are allways a struggle for me - to compete a pre work mong out it has to be a compelling offering but I peeled my self off my couch (after seeing a spurs win which definately put some bounce in my ounce).
It was good to see my friendly faces down there and a few nodding heads, the welcome was warm and the vibe was definately there.
The bill was pretty full and as we arrived Edinburgh's Abdominal Showmen were allready on stage.
Unfortunately like a lot of support bands at the start of the bill this lot went on just a bit too long. I thought they were cool in places but Scottish rap with a live band playing songs I didnt know with vocals I couldnt really here.. I was losing interest towards the end.
Ghost stepped up with Verb T and Kashmere and did some of their hits which was nice but I think the crowd in that night were more band responsive, the guys seemed to sense this, rushed through their set and got out of there.
Color Climax headlined and put in the top performance on the night. It would have been good to see this lot on a bit earlier. They are very seldom seen on the live circuit which is a shame. They are a tight funky 4 piece with some nice tracks of their own interspersed with some nicely interpreted cover versions. I am ashamed to say I was flaked and didnt stay till the end but loved their set.
Overall a good night to celebrate the release of a cracking new Breakin Bread comp - keep ya eyes on here for some Breakin Bread gigs in a town near you!
