o this was the first of I'm sure to be many James Brown Tribute nights to hit London, making this as essential voyage for myself, Caroline and a few others..
The line up was solid and more importantly - FREE!! - as expected this ensured a large crowd of James Brown lovers who got on the good foot in a big way (thats the end of the JB references so dont worry...)
Now for those of you yet to go down there, Plastic People IS London's best club. Full stop. No discussion. Its the right size, not too big, dark and hidden and most importantly has a sound system that goes to 11 in a big way! - so this was the perfect venue for some serious JB.
The line up was phat - Gilles, Charlie Dark, Keb Darge were all there and all played a nice selection of Brown new and old - I give them props as allways but have to give it up to the fullest to A cyde who wasnt billed but did a far too short guest spot and absolutely tore it up.
I didnt spend as much time as I should on the dancefloor but spent a solid 40 minutes giving it loads to Acyde who was given the task of the "Hip Hop records that sample James Brown" section.... Man this was hit packed..... Das EFX - "They want EFX" into Alkaholiks "Make Room" into Fresh 4's "Wishin on a Star Instrumental" into En Vogue "Lies" into LL's "Boomin System" into Demon Boyz "Glimmity Glamimity" - inspired............and the perfect track to end his little step up with - "Chorus Line..." inspired.....
Stayed far to late on a school night but best Wig out had in ages... Loved it ! - props to all those involved for making it a Freebie!
