Wednesday night, a freebie gig at a pub in Kings Cross by Bugz in the Attic. Very small and crowded - the stage was RIGHT in front of the audience so that i think the people at the front were definitely getting sprayed by the lead vocalists. Performance was pretty good and high energy - they played with a full band as opposed to just a 'black box' which made for a pretty good show. 1 hour in and out, 2 beers, £8 spent in total and all in all a great mid-week outing.
Friday night, different story altogether - Paul Simon at Wembley Arena. I know hes a bit Daily Mail (and the crowd DEFINITELY were), but i think you have to be a cold hearted person not to like his songs.
The show was completely amazing. Its not often I go to big gigs like this, but the professionalness of the whole thing really struck me, especially after the Bugz gig. From the sound system to the musicians, to the lighting, it really was in the premier league of concerts.
Simon didnt play a bad tune the whole night, and had the Daily Mailers going absolutely bananas - really, every song was a classic, and brilliantly performed. I especially liked the fact there were 2 full drum kits being played simultaneously giving a really solid sound.
Simon performed for a full hour, and then encored for another full hour - bit of panto i guess, but there was a great vibe because of it.
As for the tickets, we had ridiculously good seats. Front block, 4 rows back, and paid £60 a ticket. Used ebay to get the tickets, and I was very surprised at the lack of a stable market price. Tickets worse than mine were being sold at over £100 a ticket, and the situation seemed to change day by day.
