George Michael - Earl's Court

"It's not an easy time to be a George Michael" fan so said the hirsute one himself. Au contraire said the fans packed into the Earls Court arena for a very grown up pop concert. Performing in front of a piece of stage architecture that resembled a massive carpet slide George rocked between his slow songs and the more upbeat funky numbers. The bass pumping 'Everything She Wants' was probably the stand out track of the night with the whole arena on it's feet singing along.
The age of the concert goers was reflected in the fact that there was an interval (comfort break?) and the fact that it wasn't particularly loud with no ringing ears on the way out. Undoubtedly though his performance was pretty impressive demonstrating his faultless vocals and interacting with the audience with lots of asides between the songs. The stage set however was frankly odd with the band assembled on a three tier piece of scaffolding behind the afore mentioned slide and the rest of the stage sloping so that you kept worrying that George might slip off.
We await the Wham tour next year that has been mooted, hopefully with Pepsi and Shirley, Katherine Hamnett t-shirts and espadrilles.
