The 13 Senses are a modern band for a post-modern world. They are trained and disciplined musicians who's body of musical history begins with the Beatles and works its way through Pink Floyd, U2 and ultimately deposits fans at the feet of an important question: does the world need another Coldplay?
Last night they played to a couple hundred people at the Luminaire in Kilburn High road and I think it's safe to say they won't play to a crowd this small for a long time to come. This band is polished and produced, they are sooo clean they squeak (as clean as Paul's grandfather in "Hard Day's Night"). It is their talent and production value that will most likely propel them upwards in the music world. In the days of Iraq, Al Qaeda and W we are all draw to spic and span clean. To be honest though, to see a band, even one as talented as 13 Senses in a club like Luminaire, I'd prefer 40% less polished and much more raw. With a band that can rock out like these guys you hate to see them hold back, stay inside the box and on message. Some will laud them for their discipline but I'm pretty certain that I'd have hated this band when I was 18.
I think the world does want another Coldplay, especially given the original's lack of interest in performing together these days. It may be likely that more Coldplay is what we all need a bit of.
