Pharrell Williams @ Neighbourhood

To co-incide with his first ever UK solo show at the Wireless festival the next day - The main man from the Neptunes, NERD and ALL those remixes and productions announced a VERY last minute show the night before at the Neighbourhood club in West London.

So Caroline and myself (who must take the credit for this one - booked tickets etc...) dragged ourselves off the sofa after Brazil finally showed up at the World Cup final against Japan and trudged that horrible journey from North to West london...

When we arrived it was soon evident that the cat was out the bag and plenty of people found out Pharrell was doing this special club show and we were greeted by what can only be described as chaos outside the club. Plenty of security with clip boards and door men but absolutely zero order... no one knew what was going on - it was a total farce..... We feared for our chances of entry but Cazza showed up my feable attempts to assertain information and (somehow) managed to get us in...god knows how....

Once in we were greeted with a predictably road blocked Neighbourhood, we grabbed two beers each and sat tight for Pharrell to show up....

Now Pharrell had actually high jacked a Night Osunlade was involved with that night so there were actually other acts there.. We stood through a set from a New York group called Tortured soul -they had Amp fiddler guesting for them which was cool but were pretty boring and the front man had a stage presence that was perfect for radio....man their set dragged on for us....

So by the time they were off, we had listened to the basic hip hop warm up set it was 1:15am on a school night and still no Pharrell... ..we had been shoe horned on the dance floor for two hours so we were definately ready to be entertained...

So Pharrell finally shows up with Shae from Nerd in turn and proceeds to get his Dj to play the hits he has featured on with him rapping his bits with some waffle in between.... - as basic as a club set as you could get..

We didnt stay till the end of what was definately a short set - but saw enough... It was great to see Pharrell up so close but after reading reviews of his Wireless show which involved a full band, proper set and him singing - it was probably less effort to go to that instead... Oh well....

It was great to hear him rapping along to some of his biggest hits - from "Drop it like its hot" to "I just wanna love you" to his new universally hated on single with Kanye "Number one".

I question the point of the gig - he waffled something about giving something back - but little of that was evident...

Glad we went but felt it the next day...
